Overview
We are seeking a full‑time Apprentice Technician at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for applying basic electronic theory, electrical testing procedures and related knowledge to lay out, build, test, troubleshoot, repair and modify developmental and electronic equipment.
Essential Functions- Trace circuits in defective units and locate problems to the component level using electronic theory and test equipment.
- Discuss layout and assembly problems with Electronics technicians and draw sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units.
- Build experimental circuitry (breadboard) or complete prototype models according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronic systems and components.
- Analyze and recommend basic changes in circuitry or installation specifications to improve assembly, maintenance, test methods or product performance.
- Set up standard test apparatus or contrive test equipment and circuitry and conduct functional, operational, environmental and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production products.
- Analyze and interpret test data, then adjust, calibrate, align and modify circuitry and components while recording effects on unit performance.
- Record test/alignment procedures, results, defects, repair history, numerical and graphical data, and evaluate equipment and processes to ensure associate safety.
Safety & compliance:
Must possess the ability to lift up to 25 pounds while using safe lifting techniques. Compliance with HRD-003 (Garmin’s Attendance Policy), DOT requirements, and cleanliness zone area requirements. Position requires Garmin‑provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be worn for an entire shift to minimize electrostatic discharge (ESD) risk.
- Pursuing an Associate’s Degree in Electronics Technology or a Vocational Certificate in Electronics Technology or a related field.
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA ≥3.0).
- Demonstrated ability to handle component‑level troubleshooting tasks.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA ≥3.5).
- Previous electronics troubleshooting experience.
