Mechanical Engineer 2

We are seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer 2 on our Outdoor Product Team at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for developing moderately complex mechanical solutions, testing and validating, completing technology explorations and/or delivering Outdoor products to mass production. This product category includes a wide range from golf products to hiking products as well as scuba diving products and accessories.

Essential functions include completing moderately complex mechanical designs, modeling complex parts as an expert CAD user, collaborating and adding value through participation in design reviews, providing comments and suggestions on mechanical engineering designs, mockup and testing basic mechanical systems to verify compliance with design requirements, making estimates on tooling, part cost and design time for basic mechanical designs, communicating effectively with vendors that produce custom mechanical parts as required, specifying test plans to validate moderately complex systems, and possessing knowledge of injection modeling, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining processes, etc.

Demonstrating proficient knowledge of preferred part materials for basic part production and performance is also required.

Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 1 year relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) are required, along with knowledge of CAD software and the ability to model moderately complex parts (Solid Works or OnShape), and proficient knowledge and utilization of relevant engineering tools.

Desired qualifications include outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5), previous work or internship experience in design, particularly for consumer products, mechanical systems repair or troubleshooting experience, and experience using Solid Works or OnShape software.
