Role Overview and Responsibilities
The Electrical Test Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and supporting depot, warranty, and upgrade electronic assemblies using component-level failure analysis and electrical troubleshooting. This role serves as the technical subject matter expert (SME) for legacy products by developing and maintaining standardized troubleshooting documentation, improving repair processes, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, isolate, and determine the root cause of failures in depot, warranty, and upgrade electronic assemblies using electrical schematics, engineering documentation, and electronic test equipment.
- Perform component-level fault isolation and determine appropriate repair actions to restore product functionality.
- Read, analyze, and interpret complex electrical schematics, circuit designs, and technical documentation.
- Use oscilloscopes, digital and analog multimeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, power supplies, and other laboratory equipment to diagnose electrical and electronic failures.
- Provide technical guidance and support to repair technicians on complex troubleshooting, failure analysis, and repair activities.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve troubleshooting guides, fault trees, repair procedures, and engineering documentation to standardize repair processes and capture legacy product knowledge.
- Analyze recurring product failures and identify opportunities for corrective actions, process improvements, and enhanced repair methods.
- Interface with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Quality, and Operations to resolve technical issues and support engineering investigations.
- Maintain engineering logs, repair documentation, failure reports, and technical records to support product history and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support the development, validation, and continuous improvement of depot test methods, test equipment, fixtures, and diagnostic processes.
- Complete work accurately and in a timely manner while demonstrating attention to detail, promoting quality, and monitoring work to ensure compliance with established standards.

Core Requirements
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex electrical schematics, circuit designs, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of analog, digital, RF, and power electronic circuits, including component-level troubleshooting and fault isolation.
- Proficiency with electronic test equipment including oscilloscopes, digital and analog multimeters, power supplies, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and other laboratory instrumentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to perform systematic root cause analysis of complex electronic failures.
- Ability to develop and maintain technical documentation including troubleshooting guides, fault trees, repair procedures, engineering reports, and work instructions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to provide technical guidance to repair technicians and collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations.
- Commitment to continuous improvement through identifying and implementing enhancements to repair processes, technical documentation, and diagnostic methods.
Desireable Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline required.
- 5+ years of experience troubleshooting, testing, repairing, or supporting complex electronic assemblies in a manufacturing, depot repair, test engineering, or sustaining engineering environment preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting complex electronic assemblies to the component level in a production, depot, or laboratory environment.
- Experience supporting depot repair, warranty repair, product upgrades, or sustaining engineering activities preferred.
- Experience developing or improving diagnostic processes, repair methods, or engineering documentation is preferred.
