Technical Lead Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a full-time Technical Lead Mechanical Engineer on our Fitness team at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for serving as a key technical contributor in major product development or mechanical solutions for significant new applications of known technology within the Fitness product segment. Essential functions include serving as a key contributor in the review of CAD assemblies for technical feasibility and applying experience to risky design aspects of product development.

You will explore new technologies, features and functions, understand and outline the associated challenges and risks. You will utilize advanced testing capabilities and knowledge of materials to customize existing or develop new test methods to substantiate unverified aspects of product designs. You will interpret industry and Garmin product qualification tests and their relevance and impact on product design, sharing knowledge with mechanical design team members.

You will complete estimates on complex and risky mechanical designs including tooling, part cost and design time. You will negotiate processes, materials and design feasibility with factory and vendors. You may lead major explorations or product development project consisting of multiple modules or sub-projects and oversee travel as required.

Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 9 years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) and demonstrated strong and effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required. Desired qualifications include electronic packaging design experience and interest in fitness activities.
