Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary: The Deputy Bureau Director (K0212304) for Bureau of Health Promotion supports multiple state chronic disease, injury, and violence prevention programs in the Bureau of Health Promotion. This position works closely with the Bureau Director to provide oversight of programs, maintain relationships with funders, expand and nurture partnerships, and foster internal and external collaboration. The Deputy Director supports conceptual development and implementation of evidence‑based public health strategies to support population health and prevent chronic disease, injury, and violence in Kansas.

Additionally, this position supports the development, maintenance, and implementation of bureau policies and procedures.

This position will serve as the Principal Investigator/Project Director for multiple agency grant‑funded programs within the Bureau of Health Promotion. They will maintain relationships with funders of assigned programs. Working closely with the Bureau Director to provide oversight and monitor progress on the overall administration and management of all of the bureau’s federally funded programs. Routinely crosses program, bureau, and agency lines and, in collaboration with epidemiology staff, assures coordinated efforts and sufficient data to measure progress toward state chronic disease and injury objectives.

Collaborating with the Bureau Evaluation Team to develop capacity for comprehensive evaluation approaches. Directs professional staff in multiple bureau programs in preparation of applications for federal and private grant funds which support program efforts to achieve chronic disease and injury program objectives, becoming actively involved with the development of new to the agency and new project period proposals. Reviews final drafts of all bureau grant budgets and contracts, providing technical assistance to program staff as needed.
