Full Time Job Summary Project Inspection Supervisor City of Olathe | $34.06 - $45.00 per hour, depending on qualifications The City of Olathe is seeking an experienced Project Inspection Supervisor to lead inspection activities for public infrastructure projects, including streets, storm and sanitary sewers, water mains, and related improvements. This position supervises and develops inspection staff, coordinates contract inspection personnel, and ensures projects meet City specifications, safety requirements, and applicable standards.
We're Looking For
We’re looking for a knowledgeable, field-focused construction inspection professional who can lead a team and help ensure City infrastructure projects are built safely, accurately, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and municipal standards. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience inspecting civil construction projects—such as streets, water mains, storm sewers, and sanitary sewers—along with the ability to read engineering plans, address field issues, and work effectively with contractors, engineers, and internal staff.
We’re seeking someone who is organized, communicates clearly, and can prioritize multiple active projects. This role is also a people leader. The successful candidate will be comfortable mentoring inspectors, assigning and reviewing work, providing technical guidance, and supporting staff development and performance.
Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m, with with occasional schedule adjustments, overtime, or after-hours work as needed to support project inspections, and emergency operations.

Key ResponsibilitiesPlans, directs, and coordinates the technical inspection of streets, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, water mains, and other city infrastructure ensuring conformance with city specifications and policies; coordinates and supervises any outsourced project inspection staff to ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures; responds to project-related inspection issues and conflicts; meets with involved parties to review and confirm issues; makes recommendations to resolve concerns.
Mentors and trains team members, fostering skill development across all levels; assists in evaluating team performance and identifying areas for improvement; monitors work progress and provides guidance on complex or critical tasks; serves as primary point of contact for team coordination and communication; oversees and resolves the most complex issues. Provides assistance in project management, budget oversights and operations; monitors internal and external staff communications ensuring communications are handled in a professional manner;
serves as shift supervisor for cul‑de‑Sac routes during emergency snow operations.
Experience:
Seven years of progressively responsible experience in construction inspection for civil engineering projects is required. Requires extensive knowledge of construction methods, materials, municipal codes and safety regulations. Must be able to read and interpret engineering plans, blueprints, and technical drawings. Extensive knowledge and proficiency with field testing equipment and documentation software is essential. Extended knowledge of construction materials and inspection techniques is preferred.
