Job Summary
The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in assisted living. The NA provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to the assigned resident under the supervision of a charge nurse. The NA assists with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, obtaining and recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support.
The NA assists residents in transferring, repositioning, and walking using correct transfer techniques and equipment, and provides range-of-motion and passive exercises. The NA completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, creating a positive dining experience and assisting with meals, snacks, water, and supplements. The NA aids providers and nursing staff with procedures, collects non-invasive body‑fluid specimens, and gathers vital signs.
The NA may administer prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse and within state regulations. The NA documents outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and dietary. The NA communicates changes in condition and care-related concerns to the charge nurse. The NA may provide housekeeping and laundry services to keep living areas clean. The NA assists with wellness and recreational programs and encourages resident participation.
The NA delivers age‑appropriate care related to physical and psychological needs per the care/service plan and follows infection prevention and control policies and personal protective equipment use. The NA works rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays and may attend committee meetings and supervise students providing resident care.
