Position Summary / Career Interest
Ambulatory Infusion RN – Full Time (Days) at Olathe Medical Pavilion. The Ambulatory Clinic Professional Registered Nurse has the authority, responsibility, and shift accountability for the delivery of nursing care using the nursing process. The RN assumes responsibility and accountability for all patients’ IV needs and provides care to these patients via the nursing process. The RN must possess the ability to assess and interpret patient data needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age‑specific needs.
The RN is a patient‑care advocate and a liaison between staff and physicians regarding patient needs and also assists in clinic exam workflows for infusion patients.
- Provide direct patient care within the ambulatory setting (infusion suite or exam), based on the nursing process and within scope of practice.
- Review patient test results in a timely manner, interpret and communicate results in a manner consistent with the age of the patient, and incorporate information into the plan of care.
- Evaluate unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitate appropriate intervention.
- Implement appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrate appropriate use of expert peers and/or management as applicable.
- Accept accountability and use independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by healthcare providers to whom care is delegated.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of standards, effective use of resources, and evaluation of patient response in the delivery of patient care.
- Identify teach/learning needs of patients and provide educational instruction to patients and families with health‑care needs.
- Evaluate effectiveness of patient and family teaching and document in patient charts.
- Respond to and/or refer incoming patient treatment‑related phone calls.
- Complete necessary forms (e.g., FMLA, DME, Home Health orders) and obtain physician signatures when appropriate.
- Train patients in the self‑administration of treatments, particularly how to quickly recognize and respond to adverse reactions.
- Carry out the following skills as outlined in nursing procedures:
- PICC line dressing changes
- Central line dressing changes
- Port‑A‑Cath access and care
- Start/stop peripheral IV
- Administer IV, SQ, IM medications and blood products
Education and Experience
High School Graduate or GED. Associate Degree in Nursing with 2+ years RN experience, including 1 year in infusion specialty.
PreferredEducation and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Required Licensure and Certification- Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) – Single State – State Board of Nursing.
- Current active multistate RN license in good standing (state where you live) OR active single‑state RN license with proof of application for a multistate license.
- Staff hired prior to 2/1/2024 must obtain a multistate RN license from the state in which they reside by the date of their next RN license renewal (no later than 3/31/2026).
- Basic Life Support Heartsaver (BLS) or equivalent within 14 days.
Knowledge of current trends in IV Therapy.
