Student Nurse Intern Varies Olathe Hospital
Position Summary / Career InterestThe nurse intern position prepares student nurses for the registered nurse (RN) role prior to graduating from an accredited nursing program and obtaining nursing licensure. This position is intended as a supplement to school clinical experiences. Nurse interns provide direct and indirect care for assigned patients under the direction and supervision of an RN and in alignment with organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Responsibilitiesand Essential Job Functions
- Deliver safe, compassionate, high-quality care to an assigned group of patients, under the direct supervision of an RN.
- Utilize the nursing process to work in collaboration within the healthcare team, implementing and documenting individualized plans of care, incorporating age-specific considerations, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching.
- Assist with tests and procedures.
- Performs patient rounds and answer call lights immediately, using excellent customer service techniques.
- Promptly reports any unusual incidents and/or any changes observed in condition or behavior of patient to the RN preceptor.
- Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
- Uses technology appropriately, whether entering or securing data in the electronic medical record.
- Practice time management, prioritization, and self-motivation to promote a positive and effective learning environment.
- Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in services and meetings.
- Identify and report potential or actual concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses that could impact patient, visitor, or associate safety.
- Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
- Other duties may be assigned as required.
Education and Experience
- High School Graduate
- Enrollment in an accredited nursing program and completion of a "Fundamentals of Nursing" or "Med/Surg" course.
- CPR/ AED/ BLS - Other BLS within 14 days
