Role Overview
The Quality Inspector Lead provides day‑to‑day oversight of the quality inspection team and serves as the primary link between Quality Control and Assembly. The role supports accurate and consistent inspections, leads complex or judgement‑based evaluations, and proactively reduces defects and rework. The Lead is also responsible for training new and existing inspectors, coordinating inspection activities, and using data to support continuous improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and support inspectors in daily inspection activities, including complex or unclear product evaluations.
- Develop and deliver training for new inspectors and provide ongoing refreshers for the team on a weekly basis.
- Evaluate inspection performance and recommend development plans or process adjustments as needed.
- Track, trend, and report on defects found during inspections.
- Communicate inspection results, recurring issues, and product concerns to QM.
- Aid in containment when a customer complaint is received or when a defect arises at the line.
- Serve as the point of contact between the QC team and Assembly to align on inspection priorities and resolve quality issues quickly.
- Highlight recurring issues and support data‑driven decisions for process improvement.
- Coordinate preventive actions at final inspection to prevent further issues.
- Support quality engineers in implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Strong knowledge of inspection methods, GD&T, and quality standards (AS9100, ISO 9001).
- High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
- Leadership skills with experience mentoring and coordinating inspection teams.
- Effective communication and documentation skills.
- Proficient in root cause analysis and supporting CAPA efforts.
- Familiarity with ERP and Quality Management Systems.
- Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and process efficiency.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in quality control, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Five or more years of experience in quality inspection within a manufacturing environment; aerospace/defense experience is a plus.
- 1–2 years of experience in a lead or supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, and inspection techniques.
- Proficient with measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.).
- Experience with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality standards.
- Familiarity with ERP and QMS software (e.g., Epicor, SAP, Net‑Inspect).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
