Dr. Akhavan’s Laboratory in Radiation Oncology seeks a Research Assistant to perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes. Confer with principal investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments; make minor modifications to existing laboratory procedures and techniques to meet the needs of the equipment as required.
Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical and biological research laboratory tests, experiments and determinations.
- Compile, analyze, document and draw tentative conclusions from experimental results.
- Generate data and documentation of research performed for the preparation of published papers, and assist on grant submissions and compliance documentation.
- Participate in regular communication with the PIs and Post Doctoral Fellow via lab meetings to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results.
- Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook, documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information.
- Order supplies and maintain equipment.
- Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Radiation Oncology Department, understand and follow IACUC and biosafety protocols, and attend departmental seminars and lab meetings.
- 4 years of experience in a research laboratory.
- Bachelor’s degree in science or a related field.
- Experience in a hospital laboratory.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.

Compensation StatementThe pay range for this position is $22.88 – $33.17 per hour. The starting pay is expected to fall between the minimum ($22.88) and the midpoint ($28.03), with variation based on education, experience, training, qualifications, and funding.
