Overview
Compensation: USD $18.50/hr.
The Produce Manager oversees the produce department, ensuring profitability, training staff, handling inventory, and representing the company’s commitment to customer service.
Responsibilities- Provide world‑class customer service as a number one priority.

- Create an inviting, full and shopable department.
- Order for the produce department and maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Manage margin, COGS, and overall department profitability, including minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing.
- Set and maintain the department daily, ensuring that the produce rack remains consistently fresh, full, and abundant throughout the day.
- Cull, crisp, rotate, and properly handle/storproduce.
- Ensure only certified organic produce is ordered and received.
- Ensure all in‑stock products meet company standards.
- Ensure tools and equipment are cleaned according to health department and company standards.
- Receive all incoming produce orders per company standards.
- Offer and follow up on special orders.
- Train and monitor department personnel.
- Collaborate with other department managers to cross‑train staff.
- Conduct active and passive demos.
- Merchandise shelves, endcaps and dynamic displays.
- Assist in interviewing and hiring for department needs.
- Work with the store manager to address performance and disciplinary issues.
- Handle register functions including backup cashiering, customer returns, complaints, and covering shift changes.
- Maintain the safety and security of customers and employees.
- Manage business disruptions such as loiterers, solicitation, emergency weather, or bathroom misuse.
- Answer customer questions per company standards and policies.
- Continuously increase product knowledge.
- Utilize email and IS programs as needed.
- Open and close the store.
- Complete DSR and closing cash processes as required in the absence of any other qualified employee.
- Work a schedule based on store needs which includes evenings, weekends, holidays; position requires working five days, 40 hours per week and attending mandatory store meetings.
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to obtain forklift certification.
- 1‑2 years of experience in a grocery/retail/produce environment preferred; natural foods background is a plus.
- 1‑2 years of experience supervising others preferred.
- Pass food safety training courses and maintain certifications up to date.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and stay focused on the task at hand.
- Sense of urgency in completing tasks.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Take direction and follow through.
- Must be cashier trained and able to count currency.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
