For over half a century, Avcon Industries, Inc. has designed complex special-mission and ISR aircraft modifications. Avcon provisions aircraft with custom Pods, camera ports, radomes, equipment racks, mission consoles, underwing stores, and more. Avcon modifications support surveillance, patrol, target towing, search and rescue, and aerial survey missions. Avcon provides Turn-Key Product Design, Manufacture, Installation, Testing and FAA Certification Support.

SUMMARY:

We are looking for skilled and motivated individuals to join our fast-paced modification installation team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on knowledge with aircraft structural repair and modification installations and working with sheet metal tools, varying types of structural fasteners and be proficient in utilizing blueprints to determine installation procedures and requirements for completion of custom and complex projects. This role requires technical proficiency, strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a small team.

DUTIES:
  • Identify and tag the location of equipment in the aircraft that must be removed for modification.
  • Follow aircraft blueprints to perform structural aircraft modifications.
  • Perform sheet metal riveting, cutting, bending, painting and other applications for installations and repairs as necessary.
  • Reinstall removed equipment as required to reinstate aircraft worthiness.
  • Communicate verbally with co-workers to keep a safe working environment.
  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Prepare parts for installation process.
  • Apply measurements to parts and equipment.
  • Lift and transport materials and tools to/from aircraft, toolbox and work areas.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions to complete tasks.
  • Maintain work center and work area cleanliness.
  • Maintain and promote a positive attitude.
  • Understand and promote company mission and core values.
  • Report to supervisor any problems or work that will not pass Avcon Industries aircraft inspection.
  • Perform additional tasks as required by Avcon Industries.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Previous hands-on experience planning and executing aircraft structural repairs and modifications.
    • Minimum of 2 years or 1 year and be a graduate of an accredited aircraft maintenance school
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to interpret, follow and execute aircraft blueprints
  • FAA A&P is desirable but not required
  • Must be able to pass drug and alcohol tests, as required by the FAA and Avcon policies
  • Familiarity with Turbo Prop (King Air, Cessna Caravan) desired
  • May be required to work overtime, abnormal hours, rotate jobs and shifts as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Have hands-on experience with installation and application of varying types of structural aircraft fasteners such as/but not limited too;
    Hi-Loks, Taper-Loks, solid rivets, close tolerance bolts, screws and other types of specialty fasteners.
  • Be able to operate hand tools and power tools to fabricate metal components according to specifications.
  • Be able to utilize measuring instruments such as scales and micrometers to ensure precision in fabrication and installation.
  • Perform sheet metal riveting, cutting, shearing, bending, painting and other applications for installations and repairs as necessary
  • Plan and lay out fabrication sequences and processes based on specifications to carry out complex repairs and installations successfully.
  • Read and interpret complex blueprints, and technical drawings to determine project requirements.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of tools and machinery, press brake, foot sheers, grinders, drill press and typical sheet metal hand tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve fabrication issues or defects, making necessary adjustments to meet quality and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineers and managers to determine and ensure feasibility of modifications and production timelines.
  • Document fabrication processes and maintain records of work performed.
Physical Requirements:

The position requires the ability to easily fit and perform job duties in maintenance access areas of business jets. Minimum physical requirements are as follows:

  • Lifting:
    Must lift greater than 45 pounds repetitively throughout the day. Must be able to pick up, lift and hold 60 pounds while standing.
  • Flexibility:
    Must have the ability to Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend/Crouch/Stoop, Climb, Squat, Crawl, Drive, Kneel, Twist, Balance and Reach continuously and alternating for up to 8 hours.
  • Must be able to perform Above Chest Level/Above Shoulder Work, Lift/Carry, Push/Pull greater than 40 pounds frequently.
  • Must be able to work within 18 inches from the body.
  • Must be able to regularly work in awkward bending, kneeling and/or twisting positions.
  • Must have good eye/hand coordination. Must be capable of fine finger manipulation. Vision minimum of at least 20/40 required in at least one eye.
  • Ability to grip and handle general and specialized tools while supporting their weight. Vibration may be transmitted from some tools.
