The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection seeks an Environmental Protection Fisheries Biologist 1 to join its marine fisheries program in Old Lyme, conducting field surveys and monitoring fish and invertebrate populations in Long Island Sound. The role combines fieldwork aboard survey vessels, laboratory analysis, data management, and participation in interstate marine fisheries management processes. The position is hybrid, 35 hours per week with occasional overtime, and requires willingness to work in inclement weather and travel.
Keyqualifications
- Six years of marine and/or anadromous fisheries management experience, or equivalent education substitution
- Experience planning and implementing fisheries-independent marine field surveys using bottom trawls
- Ability to identify marine fish and invertebrates and process biological samples for life-history analysis
- Experience managing fisheries data and performing statistical analyses using GIS and database software
- Ability to work aboard survey vessels for extended hours in variable weather conditions
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license and ability to swim
