Occupational Category: 47-4061.00 Rail-Track Laying and Maintenance Equipment Operators The person in this position oversees crews in the performance of track maintenance and is responsible for the oversight of both the maintenance and repair activities surrounding the Maintenance of Way job (MoW) or project functions. Responsibilities include training of employees; planning, assigning and directing work; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
Primary Activities and Responsibilities Direct and manage the day-to-day activities of the Maintenance of Way crew.
Interface with others to ensure efficient and organized operations of the railroad along with the maintenance of the track.
Enforce compliance with safety procedures.
Monitor and closely control all maintenance and other related costs associate with Maintenance of Way work.
Assist to ensure department meets its track, signal and capital projects service goals.
Manage other projects and perform other duties.
Promote a safe work environment and ensure safety of others is always maintained.
Operate a variety of equipment, including loaders and speciality railroad equipment.
Use hand tools, power tools, and tools used in track repair and maintenance.
Qualifications Two plus years of related work experience in Track Maintenance MOW/Railroad engineering.
CWR TrainingCFR 213 Training Certification FRA 49 CFR 213.7(a) class ready completed a plus Valid Driver’s License required
Minimum Class B CDL preferred
Education
High school diploma or GED Physical Requirements Must be able to walk up to a mile on rough terrain.
Must be able to identify and distinguish colors and hear warning signs.
Must be able to handle parts and equipment ranging from 10 lbs to 100 lbs.
Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting heavy objects, bending, balancing, walking, stooping, stretching and handling of materials.
Work outside in all weather conditions.
