About the Role

Robert Half is seeking a detail-oriented Bookkeeper for a contract opportunity with a reputable construction company in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. This position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys managing day-to-day financial operations and supporting a growing business in a fast-paced environment.

The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with accounting functions that support the company's ongoing projects and operations.

Responsibilities

+ Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes

+ Process vendor invoices, customer payments, and expense reports

+ Maintain accurate general ledger records and financial documentation

+ Perform bank, credit card, and account reconciliations

+ Prepare and record journal entries as needed

+ Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up on collections

+ Assist with payroll processing and related recordkeeping

+ Generate financial reports and maintain accounting spreadsheets

+ Support month-end and year-end closing activities

+ Maintain organized financial files and ensure data accuracy

Requirements

Qualifications

+ High school diploma or equivalent required;
Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

+ 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software

+ Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions

+ Excellent organizational and time management skills

+ High attention to detail and accuracy

+ Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

+ Previous bookkeeping experience within the construction industry

+ Familiarity with job costing and project-based accounting

+ Experience working with construction accounting or ERP software

+ Knowledge of payroll processing and vendor management

Schedule

+ Full-time, Monday through Friday

+ Standard business hours

+ Contract assignment with potential for extension based on business needs
