Position: Certified Welding Inspectors (CWI)

Tectonic is currently seeking a full-time Certified Welding Inspector for a project in Old Saybrook, CT! This is an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile project!

Essential Functions

The essential functions of this position include traveling to project sites on a daily basis, monitoring fabrication and construction activities, and performing welding, structural steel, and related inspections to verify compliance with project plans, specifications, applicable codes, and industry standards. Duties may include reviewing welding procedures, inspecting welded connections, witnessing or coordinating nondestructive testing activities, documenting inspection findings, and utilizing inspection equipment as required by the project and client.

Essential functions also include the preparation of Daily Field Reports, communication of deficiencies observed in the field to project managers, contractors, fabricators, and/or client representatives, interpretation of project-related drawings and documents, and all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Must possess HS Diploma or equivalent and maintain the following licenses/certifications:
    • Valid AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
    • ICC Structural Steel & Bolting Special Inspector
  • Experience performing structural steel and bolting inspections in accordance with applicable project specifications and industry standards;
  • Ability to perform basic quantity and engineering computations, and to read and interpret plans and specifications;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills;
  • A valid driver's license and a personal vehicle for site inspections.
Physical Requirements

While performing the essential functions of this position, it is frequently necessary to:

  • Assume a stationary position,
  • Handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job;
  • Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using Company email and telephone systems;
  • Move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time,
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. for some types of monitoring and inspections,
  • Good visual skills, including focused depth perception, and
  • Regular daily operations of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.

Employees may also be required to undergo substance abuse testing in accordance with project requirements, US DOT Regulations, and/or Company policy. The employee may occasionally be required to operate a computer, as well as other related office machinery, such as calculators, printers, and copy machines.
