PGS Worldwide is seeking a Solder Assembler in Oldsmar, FL for a one-year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.
The Solder Assembler will assemble printed circuit boards by soldering through-hole, surface mount, and other electronic components while following IPC standards and production quality requirements. This role requires hands-on soldering experience, strong visual inspection skills, and the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on solder assembly experience in a production environment.
- IPC-A-610 soldering experience.
- IPC-J-STD-001 experience.
- Ability to solder through-hole, SMT, BGA, QFN, CSP, and other component types.
- Experience working with mixed-technology boards, including SMT and through-hole assemblies.
- Ability to identify solder defects such as bridges, cold joints, tomb stoning, insufficient wetting, and voids.
- Ability to use microscopes, AOI equipment, and other inspection tools.
- Familiarity with soldering tools such as soldering irons, hot air guns, reflow ovens, and wave solder machines.
- Ability to verify solder paste, flux, and materials against required specifications.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow safety procedures, including handling hazardous materials and using PPE.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to pass required medical exam.
Preferred Skills
- Technical or vocational training in electronics assembly.
- Knowledge of lead-free and RoHS-compliant processes.
- Familiarity with IPC-2221/2222 standards.
- Familiarity with statistical process control and yield analysis.
- Experience recommending improvements to soldering processes, tooling, or work instructions.
- SMT operating experience.
What You’ll Do
- Perform manual and/or selective soldering of PCB assemblies.
- Solder through-hole, SMT, BGA, QFN, CSP, and other electronic components.
- Inspect solder work using microscopes, AOI equipment, and visual inspection tools.
- Apply IPC-A-610 and IPC-J-STD-001 requirements during assembly.
- Identify and report solder defects.
- Verify materials such as solder paste and flux meet specifications.
- Support process, tooling, and work instruction improvements.
- Follow safety procedures and production quality standards.
Work Schedule / Shift
- 2nd shift.
- Monday–Thursday.
- 3:30 PM–2:00 AM EST.
- Overtime as needed.
- Candidates will not be able to move to 1st shift.
Pay
- $23.00–$26.00/hour
