Position Summary

The Electronics Technician III serves as an expert-level electronics technician and subject matter expert responsible for the diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of complex electronic assemblies and printed circuit boards. This position operates independently with minimal supervision, performing advanced component-level repairs. The E3 technician also provides technical leadership through training, mentoring, and documentation to support knowledge transfer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advanced Electronics Troubleshooting & Repair
  • Perform expert-level diagnostics and repair of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electronic assemblies.
  • Independently determine the root cause of electronic failures using systematic troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Perform BGA rework, advanced micro-soldering, PCB trace repair, and damaged pad repair.
  • Utilize oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and other advanced diagnostic equipment.
  • Analyze circuit behavior and waveform data to identify component- and system-level failures.
  • Interpret complex electronic schematics, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.
  • Troubleshoot electronic systems at both component and subsystem levels.
  • Document technical findings, repair activities, and troubleshooting procedures accurately and thoroughly.
  • Verify repair effectiveness through functional testing and validation procedures.

Process Development & Documentation

  • Develop, document, and improve repair procedures, troubleshooting methodologies, and technical work instructions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams to implement process improvements.

Training & Technical Leadership

  • Train, mentor, and support Electronics Technician I (E1) and Electronics Technician II (E2) personnel.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for assigned products, technologies, and repair processes.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Support initiatives to improve first-pass yield, repair turnaround time, and overall production efficiency.
  • Participate in root-cause investigations and corrective action activities.

Technical Knowledge Requirements

AC-DC converters, DC-DC converters, Switching transformers, Amplifiers, Oscillators, Filters, LCD drivers, Microcontrollers, Memory circuits.

Communication Protocols

UART, SPI, I²C, CAN, USB

Required Qualifications

Associate degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related discipline; minimum 3 years of advanced electronics troubleshooting and repair experience; demonstrated expertise in PCB diagnostics and component-level repair; ability to read schematics, BOMs, and technical documentation.

Certification Requirements

Written Examination: 90% minimum passing score. Practical Examination:
Diagnose and repair unknown failures within labor standards. Diagnostic Evaluation:
Demonstrate advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods; use microscopes and precision tools; lift to 25 pounds occasionally; manual dexterity for soldering and repair work.

Work Environment

Electronics repair and manufacturing environment requiring adherence to ESD and safety procedures.
