Job Description

F5 Administrator – Subject Matter Expert required at the Stennis Data Center in Hancock County, MS. Must pass a background investigation.

The role involves thorough administration of F5 load balancers, understanding routing and switching protocols (STP, BGP, OSPF, TCP, SSL, SNAT, TLS) and application layer protocols (HTTP, SSH, SSL, DNS). Responsibilities include OS upgrades, trunking, general troubleshooting, configuring HTTP & HTTPS behavior, creating custom monitors, and working with Global Traffic Manager and Iquery for HA designs.

Additional context:
The position supports the Department of Homeland Security’s Data Center‑1 program in delivering efficient, responsive data center operations.

• Provides Level 3 support and direction for production issues; considered an SME in application end‑to‑end flow and infrastructure integration touchpoints.
• Participates in application release activities and resolves related issues.
• Provides app dev support across all environments in scope for channels space.
• Provides on‑call support and participates in shift rotation.
• Works with enterprise partners for chronic infrastructure issues, product bugs, and feature enhancements.
• Participates in project calls and gathers technical requirements with internal bank groups and LOBs.
• Responsible for application integration designs, including logic, code (session management, redirections, rewrites, migration scenarios, routing, persistence).
• Ensures application forward fits across all environments.
• Documents end‑to‑end application and infrastructure design.
• Provides requirements for new feature enhancements, certifications, and lifecycle management.
• Establishes application capacity/threshold management routines and identifies upgrade/enhancement opportunities.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred:
  Bachelor’s in engineering, computer science, management information systems, or related field.
• Six or more years of experience in data, voice, or video networks.
• Experience with multiple technical platforms (mainframe, two‑tiered, three‑tiered client‑server) and at least two network systems (e.g., Novell, Windows NT).
• Experience with network systems, networking principles, data, voice, or video.
• Experience with network software and hardware; proprietary software and hardware.
• Possess Department of Defense (DoD) security access and/or DoD security clearance.

• Knowledge of F5 iRules enabling customization of application load balancing.
• Expertise in application switching and traffic management, deep knowledge of persistence, SSL offload, SSL certificate and key implementation, web acceleration and TCP optimization, use of F5 DOS/DDOS features.
• In‑depth knowledge of F5 BIG‑IP hardware platforms (Citrix Net Scaler also desired).
• In‑depth knowledge of F5 TMOS architecture and current software versions.
• Functional understanding of network Layer 2/3 switching and routing protocols.
• Knowledge of F5 LTM and GTM hardware platforms and deployment guidelines.
• Functional understanding of diverse networked applications requiring traffic management (HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, FTP, DNS, NTP, ANYCAST, etc.).
• DMZ network infrastructure knowledge including topology, security policies, firewalls, L2/L3 switch and router infrastructure.
• Understanding of LTM inbound SNAT configurations and outbound NAT mapping.
• Understanding of application load balancing strategies and advanced techniques.
• Functional understanding of F5’s API iControl and application integration.
• Admin experience with F5 configuration CLI (Big Pipe and Shell/TMSH).
• Experience with packet capture analysis software.
• Understanding of F5 generic monitors and custom monitor creation.
• Knowledge of advanced F5 modules (Web Accelerator, Application Security Module, Application Policy Module).
• Knowledge of F5 system logging events and levels.
• Knowledge of iRules, content switching or URL rewriting.
• Experience in VIP creation, certificate updates, SSL profile creation, pool creation, and pool member modification.
