Job Overview
The Security Officer is responsible for patrolling the hospital and grounds to ensure a safe, secure environment for Associates, patients, family members, and other visitors. The role models appropriate behavior as exemplified in the institution’s Mission, Vision and Values, and carries a mission forward of caring for the community and providing a consistently excellent service experience.
Responsibilities- Patrol the hospital, parking, and/or assigned areas to maintain safety and security for Associates, patients, and visitors.
- Assume mobile responsibilities, including use of a van or shuttle.
- Provide customer service and perform general duties while using proper communication skills for radio and telephone.
- Prepare daily activity reports, including Incident Reports, Offense Reports, Fire Reports, and other documentation.
- Maintain property of patients and lost-and-found items, and keep documentation on money escorts.
- Maintain appearance and equipment in an orderly manner.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Preferred: 1–3 years of experience in security or law enforcement.
- Class D Driver License – Tennessee.
- Security Guard – Unarmed – Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.
- Knowledge of security and criminal investigation methods and operations commensurate with education/experience.
- Ability to carry out assigned duties with integrity and honesty.
- Skill in applying appropriate behavior when greeting and assisting members of the public.
- Ability to understand and prepare written materials at a moderate level, including Incident Reports.
- Ability to communicate verbally with Associates and visitors.
- Ability to work without close supervision and exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and maintain control of workflow.
- Ability to maintain working relationships with co‑workers.
The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. The employee must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, demonstrate good balance and coordination, and meet visual acuity requirements for tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, and reading.
The employee may need to use physical force to resolve an emergency situation and complete departmental required training that includes physical, hands‑on training and competencies.
