Position: Scaffold Helper - Various Locations

Scaffold Helper

A Scaffold Helper position assists Scaffold Builders in assembling and dismantling wooden structures such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnels, and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters, according to sketches, blueprints, or company standards.

Primary Duties
  • Assisting with erecting and dismantling scaffolding; inspecting and sorting scaffolding as required.
  • Loading and unloading scaffold components and equipment.
  • Setting up hoisting equipment for raising and positioning scaffold components.
  • Using ropes and harnesses or ladders to access scaffolding sites.
  • Applying knowledge of drawings to assemble scaffolding from parts.
  • Assembling bolts or screws together.
  • Verifying vertical and horizontal alignment of scaffold components using plumb bob, level, or other instruments.
  • Cutting, trimming, or drilling scaffold components for fit with hand and power tools.
  • Selecting gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches according to load weight, size, and work schedule.
  • Assisting with assembling and installing supporting structures, rigging, hoists, and pulling gear with hand and power tools.
  • Assisting with fabrication and maintenance of rigging such as slings, tackle, and ladders with hand and power tools.
  • Selecting scaffold component sizes and types and related materials such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders according to specifications.
  • Maintaining and up‑keeping scaffolding materials in proper order.
  • Demonstrating Yates Core Values and Principles.

  • Safety Responsibilities and Expectations
    • Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices.
    • Reporting all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
    • Requiring to wear and maintain personal PPE.
    • Advising fellow employees of hazardous situations.
    • Participating in workplace inspections.
    • Complying with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
    • Participating in required and assigned training.
  • Providing suggestions to improve safety.
  • Presenting a mature approach to working safely.
  • Attending pre‑start and safety meetings and contributing.
  • Performing other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.
  • This is not an all‑inclusive list of tasks an employee may be asked to do; employees are expected to complete any tasks they are assigned.
Qualifications
  • Level IV:
    Thirty‑six (36) + months of heavy industrial‑related scaffold experience.
  • Level IV:
    Other verified experiences or certifications with scaffold experience.
    • Level III:
      Twenty‑four (24) to thirty‑five (35) months of heavy industrial‑related scaffold experience.
    • Level II:
      Twelve (12) to twenty‑three (23) months of heavy industrial‑related scaffold experience.
    • Level I:
      Zero (0) to eleven (11) months of heavy industrial‑related scaffold experience.
    • One (1) year of industrial experience.
Requirements
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation.
  • Must possess personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List.
  • Must successfully complete required safety training including, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights.
Physical Demands and Essential Job Functions
  • All weather conditions at varying temperatures.
  • Work at varying elevations.
  • Will work in windy and dusty environments.
  • Moderate to high noise levels.
  • The project site will contain light to heavy equipment, vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools.
  • Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms.
  • Required to wear safety‑approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above.
  • Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting.
  • Ability to talk and hear to communicate.
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
