The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.
QualificationsCertifications:
- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 1 year – American Heart Association (AHA)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days – American Heart Association (AHA)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year – American Heart Association (AHA)
Education: College Diploma Nursing
Responsibilities- Perform all responsibilities and duties required by unit as specific to the scope of service.
- Implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
- Complete initial assessment upon patient admission and develop appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards based on patient and family needs.
- Implement plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
- Modify plan of care based upon continuous assessment.
- Ensure responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
- Communicate with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues; offer constructive feedback to assist professional development of peers.
- Consult with and keep the Nurse Manager informed of all activities, needs, concerns, and problems in the unit.
- Assist with orientation, instruction, training, and supervision of new staff members; communicate with new staff regarding their developmental needs and give feedback to the Nurse Manager.
- Order supplies, medications, and linens as needed; clean and stock rooms including emergency carts.
- Check sterile supplies and medications for equipment proper use and safety, maintain equipment in good working order, remove broken or defective equipment from use, and report to the Nurse Manager or designee.
- Consistently document patient care with accuracy and completeness, including chronology of events during patient’s ED stay.
- Verify and carry out physician’s orders accurately and in a timely manner.
- Exhibit proficiency in setting up, assisting physician, and cleaning equipment with procedures (airway maintenance, central lines, chest tubes, GYN/OB procedures, lumbar puncture, orthopedic procedures, sexual assault, suturing, thoracentesis, poisoning, etc.).
- Perform hourly rounding on the Emergency Department.
- Insert Medi Trend Report for unusual occurrences: adverse drug reaction, medication error, abuse, restraints, patient complaints, etc.
- Perform patient assessment and develop care plan in collaboration with providers, family and patient.
- Execute plan of care and nursing interventions; modify care plan based on continuous assessment.
- Ensure patient and staff safety through appropriate nursing interventions, adhering to safety standards and correcting/reporting safety hazards.
- Effectively communicate/collaborate with staff, visitors and families to promote a healthy and healing work environment.
- Provide feedback to peers to aid in professional development, increase knowledge base, and problem solve.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records/documentation.
The compensation range for this position is $36.80 per hour - $59.89 per hour. This represents a good‑faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
