The System Application Auditors audit the software applications used across the State. We independently audit and pinpoint application vulnerabilities. We assist the financial and compliance auditor’s opinion by scrutinizing application controls and identifying critical risks. We analyze the strength of application-level security.

• Design audit plans to address key risks identified by the financial and compliance auditors.
• Uncover relevant information needed for the audit scope and analyze manual and automated workflows.
• Build a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the targeted area.
• Deliver reliable and understandable results and document relevant information.
• Test controls, both automated and manual, to validate their effectiveness.

IT Auditor4 are for SAO internal candidates only

The IT Auditor 4 is a specialized expert who serves as lead auditor for the largest and most complex system reviews. This position has overall responsibility for each assigned IT audit engagement or project from planning, development of statewide IT testing strategies, conducting, and overseeing implementation of audit methodologies, and audit reporting for state or local government IT audits. May lead audits or projects that include multiple IT audit staff or highly technical IT environments.

Promotion to IT Auditor 4 requires obtaining a certification, such as a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or a technical equivalent certification, to be eligible for any IT Auditor 4 inter‑agency career advancement posting opportunities.

To be considered for an IT Auditor 4 position, the SAO candidate must have consistently ranked high as an Assistant State Auditor 3+ and have an ITLT approved IT4 pre‑approved proposal.

• Has developed skills and knowledge beyond the expectations of an IT Auditor 3+ in relation to auditing AI‑specific system applications.
• Has completed the following:
  • Identified appropriate framework criteria for auditing AI systems.
  • Created a risk assessment to identify key risks associated with AI systems.
  • Created comprehensive testing strategies for auditing AI systems.
  • Presented the completion of their proposal to the ITA Leadership Team (ITLT).
