This full-time, on-site Tax Preparer role is based in the Portland, Oregon Metropolitan Area. The Tax Preparer will meet with clients to gather financial information, review documentation, and assess tax situations for accurate and compliant tax return preparation. Responsibilities include preparing federal and state individual tax returns, verifying data, applying current tax laws and regulations, and explaining outcomes and options to clients in a clear and supportive manner.
The role involves maintaining detailed records, identifying potential deductions and credits, and ensuring timely filing of returns. The Tax Preparer will also collaborate with team members, use H&R Block tax software and tools, and stay current on changes in tax law through ongoing training and professional development.
- Strong tax preparation skills, including accurate preparation of individual tax returns and familiarity with tax filing processes.
- Knowledge of tax law and regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply current tax codes to client situations.
- Understanding of finance and financial statements to analyze income, expenses, and relevant financial data for tax purposes.
- Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills to identify deductions, credits, and compliance issues.
- Excellent client-facing communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain tax concepts in accessible language.
- Proficiency with tax preparation software and basic computer applications; ability to learn new systems and tools quickly.
- Ability to work on-site, manage multiple client appointments, and maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or certification in tax preparation, accounting, or finance is preferred.
- Previous experience in tax preparation, accounting, or a related financial field is beneficial.
