A certified High School English Language Arts Teacher will manage instructional programs, interact via telephone, internet, and curriculum tools, and consult regularly with caretakers, learning coaches, and students to ensure successful completion of the instructional program.

• Homeroom Roles:
  • Host a homeroom of students; act as role model and mentor throughout the school year.
  • Conduct weekly homeroom Live Lessons.
  • Support students and families through key school‑year cycle tasks (e.g., Welcome Calls, Intent to Return, monthly WSLP Progress Checks).
  • Encourage student engagement in lessons and Live Lessons.
  • Welcome assigned homeroom students and families within their first week of enrollment.
  • Frequently check in on academic and graduation/promotion status, especially if off‑track.
• Content Roles:
  • Supplement asynchronous content with at least one synchronous Live Lesson per course (or a combination of Live Lesson and office hours) and deliver support videos as needed.
  • Operate within the school’s Multi‑Tiered System of Supports model; use data to provide Tier 1 differentiated instruction, and collaborate on Tier 2 and 3 interventions.
  • Grade all submitted assignments within 8 days, providing clear, constructive feedback.
  • Review curriculum and devise alternate approaches to increase student understanding.
  • Maintain general knowledge of the 9‑12 curriculum and detailed knowledge of assigned courses.
  • Support students and caretakers with alternate lessons, assessments, and strategies, and assist with daily assignments and projects to meet learning goals.
  • Consult with instructional staff and specialists (IEP/504/EL case managers, advisory staff, intervention specialists) to develop alternate enrichment activities and modifications.
• Contact Roles:
  • Communicate regularly with caretakers, students, and instructional staff via computer and telephone.
  • Meet individually with each content‑area student at least once per semester to discuss progress and needs.
  • Log all contacts—successful or unsuccessful—within 24 hours.
  • Meet weekly student contact requirements set by school, division, and leadership.
• Community Roles:
  • Coordinate and attend social activities and relevant field trips; integrate virtual learning when possible.
  • Develop and implement virtual methods for maintaining a school community.
  • Participate in state testing administration, including in‑person proctoring of WIDA and/or SBAC/WCAS testing.
  • Join student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts requiring staff representation.
• Behind‑the‑Scenes Roles:
  • Serve as a member of IEP and 504 teams, sharing progress insights and feedback on goals and accommodations.
  • Collaborate within a professional learning community to review data and improve instruction.
  • Work with Advisory Teachers and School Counselors to ensure communications, progress, and goal attainment within WSLP, promotion, and graduation frameworks.

  • Report and refer critical incidents per law and ethical standards.
