Job Purpose Statement

The job of "Teacher - High School" is done for the purpose/s of developing students’ academic skills through academic courses of study and implementing District approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment, and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

The Olympia School District Math Department is looking to add another teacher to their highly collaborative team. Ideal and qualified candidate will have the experience, ability and willingness to meet the criteria in being a College in the High School instructor. OHS is committed to creating individualized instruction for all students and uses the team-teaching model for lower levels of math.

Teaching lines can/will include co-teaching Algebra 1 and Geometry.

Essential Job Functions
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to support teacher’s expectations, develop improvement methods and/or reinforce classroom goals at home.
  • Assesses students to provide feedback to students, parents and administration concerning progress, expectations, and goals.
  • Assists other teachers in implementing curriculum.
  • Collaborates with school personnel, parents and community agencies to improve student outcomes, develop solutions and plan curriculum.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments and/or skills (e.g., lab experiments, athletic techniques) to provide students with necessary skills to perform tasks safely and accurately.
  • Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides to provide an effective program and address individual student needs.
  • Instructs students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Monitors student activities (e.g., classroom, lunch, grounds) to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to implement lesson plans and document teacher and student progress.
  • Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain personal safety of students, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to Education Code, district and school policies.
