Job Purpose Statement(s)

The job of “Teacher
- Special Education” is done for the purpose/s of facilitating Special Services student success in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living through implementing District approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing specific needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Position Overview

This 1.0 FTE continuing position works Monday
- Friday, 180 days per year. Position to begin employment in the 2026-27 school year. Special Education endorsement is required;
Math certification is strongly preferred. This position will carry a .8 IEP caseload of 24 students, requiring IEP evaluations, re‑evaluations, and meetings with families. Must be able to work with students and their families to develop successful high school pathways for graduation. This position will teach three Algebra Lab classes, one Co‑Taught Algebra 2 class, and one general education Algebra IXL class.

Knowledge of disabilities, accommodations, modifications, brain development, and trauma‑informed practices strongly encouraged. This position also includes one section of a co‑taught Algebra 2 class. Candidates with co‑teaching experience will be preferred. The position will share a prep period with the co‑teacher, and regular collaboration is expected. Preference will be given to candidates with experience or knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices, restorative practices, and MTSS.

Employees will receive vacation leave, paid holidays and additional compensation beyond their base salary as outlined in their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Essential Job Functions
  • Adapt lesson/s for the purpose of implementing the IEP goals and meeting the special needs of student.
  • Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Assess student’s social needs (e.g. behavioral, motor development, communications, etc.) and academic needs (e.g. developmental level, vocational abilities, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating students and family requirements, placement and success of the program.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, agencies and community agencies (e.g. social service agencies, caretakers, etc.) for the propose of developing and modifying the program to maximize the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
  • Direct instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides for the propose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Instruct students with individualized special needs for the purpose of developing appropriate academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
  • Manage student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and an optimal learning environment.
  • Prepare teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
