High School, Science Teacher
Job Purpose Statement/s:
The job of "Teacher - High School" is to develop students’ academic skills through academic courses of study and implementing District approved curriculum; document teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; address specific educational needs of students; provide a safe and optimal learning environment; and provide feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
This is a 1.0 FTE continuing position. Position to begin employment in the 2026‑2027 school year.
Endorsements in secondary math and science are required and experience is preferred. This position will teach one section of Chemistry, and four sections of Geometry. Knowledge of trauma‑informed and restorative practices, culturally responsive teaching strategies and standards‑based grading is preferred. Must be willing to co‑teach a class and share a planning period with a co‑teacher with expectation to engage in common planning regularly.
Must collaborate with both Math and Science departments and pursue a College in the High School credential for Chemistry (to be applied in the 2027‑2028 year).
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
- Assesses students for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
- Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum.
- Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies to improve student outcomes, develop solutions and plan curriculum.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments and/or skills (e.g., lab experiments, athletic techniques, etc.) for the purpose of providing students with the necessary skills to perform the tasks safely and/or accurately.
- Directs instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aides to provide an effective school program and address the needs of individual students.
- Instructs students to improve their success in academics through a defined course of study.
- Monitors student activities (e.g., classroom, lunch, grounds, etc.) to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) to implement lesson plans and document teacher and student progress.
- Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) to maintain student safety, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to Education Code, district and/or school policies.
Job Functions:
- Assists other personnel as required to support them in completing their work activities.
- Participates in meetings (e.g., parent conferences, in‑service training, site meetings, etc.) to receive and/or provide information and/or meet credential requirements.
- Participates in the growth of an effective school climate sensitive to diverse socioeconomic groups.
- Facilitates, plans, organizes and implements flexible classroom and leadership curriculum in a community‑based environment.
- Promotes and models an environment that fosters high expectations, performance, respect and dignity for all students.
- Demonstrates ability to integrate technologies (e.g., grading software) through continuing professional development.
- Works cooperatively, energetically, and productively within a CTE Department while fostering parental involvement.
- Leads and/or participates in CTE Advisory Board meetings and local Tech Prep meetings.
- Is an energetic, motivated, positive individual focused on the CTE Communication Technology Program to prepare students with employable skills.
