This is a full-time, overtime eligible position on the Olympia campus of The Evergreen State College. This position is an “at-will” appointment, exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules.
Position PurposeThis position supports the mission and purpose of Evergreen’s school of Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) and Evergreen’s Learning and Teaching Commons by providing collaborative instructional design, curriculum development, and faculty development. This position supports an expanding academic venture in online and asynchronous professional education and includes direct work with faculty and institutional partners. The primary focus for this position is to provide expertise and support in curriculum design and faculty development in Evergreen’s school for Professional and Continuing Education.
Natureand Scope
This position reports to the Dean of Professional and Continuing Education and is primarily responsible for collaborating with Evergreen’s PaCE faculty to improve online course design and instructional materials for remote and blended learning environments. The position works closely with The Learning and Teaching Commons (the college’s hub for faculty development) to foster student-centered, equity‑minded, and inquiry‑driven teaching. Through coaching and resource development, the position strengthens faculty capacity to design quality online learning that honors Evergreen’s commitment to learning in community, personalized evaluation, and transformative education for adult learners.
The position includes occasional evening and weekend commitments.
- Provide pedagogical and instructional design consultation and direct support to faculty and non-credit instructors to improve instructional delivery with technology, including needs assessment, online course building, and instructional material selection for asynchronous learning experiences that are well-suited to busy adult lives and compliant with state and federal accessibility standards.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop creative online instructional materials and support its implementation within Canvas (Evergreen’s LMS).
- Support onboarding and professional development of new PaCE faculty and CEU instructors.
- Collaborate with faculty and institutional partners (such as regional employers and business associations) to support the design of structured, credit-bearing internship programs for part‑time students.
- Coordinate with campus staff, particularly academic computing, library services, access services, the technical support center, and academic deans to ensure alignment with technical, content, and policy requirements.
- Advise administrative and faculty policy‑making groups to improve online course experience for students.
- Develop, maintain, and facilitate workshops and online training for faculty teaching online curriculum at Evergreen.
- Research technologies and practices that enable effective, accessible, and equitable methods of instruction.
- Analyze and provide feedback on courses and instructional materials using a quality framework.
- Skill in coaching others in effective and accessible online course design, needs assessment development, instructional materials selection and design, and LMS site architecture.
- Knowledge of the role that student learning outcomes assessment and faculty development play in addressing equity gaps and improving student success.
