Position Title Part-time Adjunct for Environmental Communication, Master of Environmental Studies 2026

Job Summary

Evergreen’s Graduate Program on the Environment, which awards the Master of Environmental Studies (MES) degree, seeks a faculty colleague to teach the elective “Environmental Communication” in Fall 2026. This one-quarter part‑time adjunct position is dedicated to graduate students, teaching a 4‑credit MES elective in the evening. Teaching responsibilities include lectures, workshops, seminar facilitation, and evaluation of student work. The elective is designed to develop each student’s writing and communication abilities through careful reading, argument construction, and substantive editing.

The teaching mode is hi‑flex: faculty will be present with students in a classroom, and a Zoom link will be offered for each class session for students who need to attend remotely. Optional hands‑on workshops may take place in campus facilities (e.g., media studios) and possibly on weekends or outside of class. A successful candidate must be able to teach techniques of mass communication and scientific writing;

based on faculty expertise, alternative forms of communication such as video, podcasting, and visual communications may be included.

Job Expectations

Faculty will deliver lectures, facilitate seminars, and conduct workshops. Evaluation will be through narrative assessments rather than formal grades, with full‑time faculty typically responsible for evaluating 15 students per quarter in an elective. Faculty are also responsible for advising students in their areas of expertise regarding skill development, career opportunities, and professional pathways.

Students, faculty, and staff collaborate to understand environmental problems and solutions, fostering quantitative, technical, critical, creative, and effective communication skills, while valuing diversity and equity. Advisory responsibilities include guiding students on advancement and employment prospects.
