Evergreen Prison Education Program, Lead Faculty (Full Time, Tenure Track)
The Evergreen State College invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty position for the Evergreen Prison Education Program (EPEP) to teach in‑person classes in Washington State correctional facilities. The current location is Stafford Creek Corrections Center in Aberdeen, WA.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate level, lead interdisciplinary teams, and coordinate with other EPEP faculty across facilities. The role requires experience in liberal arts and sciences and the ability to adapt courses to the prison setting, including limited internet access and DOC approval of materials.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate courses in one or more WA State correctional facilities.
- Develop and maintain robust, interdisciplinary curricula in collaboration with other faculty.
- Coordinate with DOC staff on facility‑level needs and train new faculty on DOC requirements.
- Provide advising and support for students pursuing their BA, including advising on pathways of study.
- Conduct individual written evaluations for up to 25 students per teaching assignment each quarter.
- Allocate .25 FTE release time each quarter for administrative and curriculum responsibilities.
- College‑level teaching experience in interdisciplinary liberal arts and sciences.
- Experience teaching in person to diverse or underserved populations.
- Knowledge of and experience with subjects such as Math, Science, Sociology, Anthropology, History, Psychology, Political Science, Indigenous Studies, Environmental Studies, Game Design, Spanish, Literature, Creative Writing, or related areas.
- Experience teaching college‑level courses in person to incarcerated scholars (preferred).

- Obtain DOC security clearance prior to hiring.
- Complete annual DOC and institutional training related to prison work.
- Follow DOC policy on communicating with students between class meetings.

Salary Information: $53,966 – $111,485 (median $84,853 for recent faculty hires). Faculty membership is unranked with salary determined on a non‑competitive, open scale based on earned degrees and years of relevant experience.
