Overview

As the Thurston County 4‑H Program Coordinator, you provide oversight, leadership, recruitment, and volunteer management for Washington State University Extension work in the 4‑H Youth Development Program of Thurston County. You are responsible for outreach and coordinating education efforts serving 4‑H youth and volunteers. This includes the development and implementation of programs and activities within the policies and procedures of WSU Extension, and specifically, 4‑H programming under the direction of the Thurston County Extension Director.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight, leadership, and recruitment for 4‑H youth development programs.
  • Manage volunteer recruitment and coordination.
  • Plan, develop, and implement 4‑H programs and activities in accordance with WSU Extension policies.
  • Coordinate outreach and educational efforts for 4‑H youth and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with public agencies and individuals to build partnerships.
  • Prepare reports, evaluations, press releases, and other program materials.
  • Communicate with program participants, partners, and decision makers.
  • Travel as needed and maintain a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and at least two (2) years of related program experience.
  • Relevant disciplines include social sciences, education, human development, and administration.
  • Experience recruiting and managing volunteers.
  • Knowledge of or experience with 4‑H youth development programs.
  • Experience working or collaborating with public agencies and partnerships.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
  • Successful completion of WSU background screening and 4‑H Youth Development/Child Protection screening.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Professional discretion when resolving programmatic conflicts.
  • Strong written communication skills for reports, evaluations, press releases, and program synthesis.
  • Strong verbal communication, listening, and public speaking skills.
  • Experience in program assessment and evaluation.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, creative environment.
  • Ability to relate to a wide range of people from diverse demographic backgrounds and settings.
  • First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain certification.
Benefits
  • Monthly Salary: $2,925.66 – $4,210.10 at 75% FTE ($3,900.88 – $5,613.47 at 100% FTE); commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including paid sick and vacation leave, paid holidays, medical, dental, life and disability insurance for employees and dependents, retirement, deferred compensation, optional supplemental retirement accounts, training and development, and employee tuition waiver.
  • Position is overtime eligible and temporary part‑time (75% FTE), expected to end 1 year from date of hire; renewal dependent on funding.
