Position Title Visual Arts Praxis Adjunct Faculty for the Master in Teaching Program (Winter 2027)

The Evergreen State College seeks a 0.3 FTE , adjunct faculty member for our Master in Teaching program for winter quarter of 2027. We seek faculty with expertise in Visual Arts teacher preparation and prefer expertise in multilingual learner education in the context of Visual Arts.

Successful applicants will teach with an interdisciplinary teacher education team and work in close collaboration with MiT staff. Successful applicants should demonstrate a passion for teaching and skill in working with adult learners. This position will be primarily responsible for teaching elementary and secondary Visual Arts methods.

Applicants should demonstrate interest, skill and commitment to collaboration with teaching colleagues while also working independently with shared goals. We are a coordinated studies program where faculty plan both in community and on their own so that there is continuity in the learning experiences for teacher candidates and clear developmental attention to the goals of the program. This practice also creates interdisciplinary opportunities for faculty to learn.

Winter 2027 courses occur in the evenings after 4pm.

MiT faculty teach as part of an interdisciplinary team, at a 15:1 student/faculty ratio. We are a coordinated studies program where faculty plan together, which involves extensive meeting time as well as solo preparation, so that there is continuity in the learning experiences for candidates.

Our teaching is student-centered, which means we are interested in helping teacher candidates develop strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication, and collaborative work. We are particularly interested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity, equity, and inclusion, and draw on culturally sustaining practices.

• Master’s degree in education or an education-related field
• Experience providing educational opportunities for adult learners
• Minimum of two years of teaching in K-12 classroom

• Master’s degree or higher in education
• Recent full time experience as a certificated Visual Arts teacher in a public school setting
• A teaching endorsement in Visual Arts (active or expired)
• A teaching endorsement in English Language Learners (active or expired)
• Experience working with K-12 multilingual learners

* As a condition of employment, persons hired must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of beginning work.

* Prior to an official offer of employment, a Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct form must be submitted to the college per RCW 28B.112.080. The college will contact current and past employers to verify this information. Applicants who provide inaccurate information in their declaration will be disqualified and, if the inaccuracies are discovered after the applicant has been hired, it shall be grounds for termination.

Faculty membership is unranked with salary determined on a non-competitive, open scale based on earned degrees and years of relevant experience.
