Job Summary

The Evergreen State College seeks a full-time regular
* faculty member to teach mycology and biology at the undergraduate level.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Mycology, Biology, or related field with emphasis in mycology. The ideal candidate is a scholar-practitioner: both rigorous in their science and comfortable connecting fungal biology to environmental and human health applications, industry trends, and emerging career paths. We seek colleagues who have a strong interest in innovative, collaborative pedagogy, and who have experience working with diverse and underserved populations.

The faculty member in this position will teach courses in a Mycology Certificate , a general biology sequence, and related subjects in the faculty member’s areas of competence. The faculty member will also be expected to collaboratively develop team-taught, interdisciplinary offerings with faculty members from a variety of other disciplines in the social sciences, humanities, business, arts, computer science, or other physical sciences.

The faculty member will join Evergreen’s school of Professional and Continuing Education where classes are taught in the evenings and on weekends. The faculty member should be prepared to teach classes in person and online.

Prior to an official offer of employment, a Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct form must be submitted to the college per RCW 28B.112.080. Applicants who provide inaccurate information in their declaration will be disqualified and, if the inaccuracies are discovered after the applicant has been hired, it shall be grounds for termination.

Job Expectations

Curriculum in the school of Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) is based on undergraduate certificates and bachelor’s degree completion curriculum comprised of 4-credit and 8-credit offerings, and capstone work that may include internships or individual study. Classes may be offered fully online, in-person, or in low residency/hybrid formats (with both remote and in-person elements). Synchronous in-person and online instruction takes place during evening or weekend hours.

In the first year of the contract, faculty will have partial release from teaching to help with the design and development of new certificates and curriculum in the school for Professional and Continuing education. Faculty will be provided with opportunities to increase their skill in online curriculum development.
