Roles & ResponsibilitiesRoles and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following regarding sediment remediation projects:
- Understanding the scientific and engineering principles of modeling contaminant fate and transport through sediment caps in subaqueous systems. Experience with Cap Sim is preferred.
- Experience using CAD to develop drawings for contaminated sediment dredging and/or soil excavation projects, including an ability to follow direction from a senior engineer with minimal continual oversight.
- Experience performing slope stability modeling.
- Experience with the development of field sampling programs and subsequent data analyses to support the development of conceptual site models, mass balances, and data‑based understanding of fate and transport processes. This includes interpreting results from sediment cores, bathymetric surveys, etc.
- Experience with numerical and/or desktop model development, calibration, and application.
- Experience evaluating the feasibility of sediment remediation technologies and assisting in the development of sediment remediation designs for large contaminated sediment sites involving multiple stakeholders.
- Serve as CDM Smith’s primary interface with clients on complicated sediment tasks; this includes having the ability to assess and understand a problem and develop and communicate a technical strategy to the client.
Bachelor’s degree. 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Science or Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
- Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer).

- Maximum: $136,240
