This recruitment is for multiple full‑time permanent Park Ranger 2 in‑training positions. Candidates enter a pool for statewide vacancies.
We offer an opportunity to work outdoors, share a passion for nature, and protect public resources. Positions are fully commissioned and armed.
Responsibilities- Protect, preserve, and enhance state parks and natural resources.
- Ensure the safety and welfare of park visitors.
- Communicate with the public, provide information, and deliver interpretive and educational talks.
- Identify, improve, and protect wetlands, archaeological sites, and other sensitive areas.
- Perform law‑enforcement activities, including incident reporting and enforcing park regulations.
- Support grant and acquisition projects as required.
- High‑school diploma or GED.
- United States citizen or lawful permanent resident.
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
- Must be 21 years of age by date of hire.
- Two (2) years of college, military, commissioned law‑enforcement, natural‑resource, or recreation experience.
- Successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy (18‑week) or equivalent training.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Prior work experience in a state or national park.
- College coursework in natural resources or recreation.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
- Knowledge of Native American tribal culture and history.

- No criminal activity while employed by the criminal‑justice system.
- No marijuana use within 12 months of application.
- No possession or use of illegal drugs in the last ten years.
- No domestic‑violence convictions.
- Must meet fitness and physical stamina requirements.
- Willing to work Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and irregular hours.
- No possession or use of non‑prescribed stimulants, opioids, or other controlled substances within the last 10 years.
- Zero tolerance for selling or manufacturing drugs.
- Marijuana use within the last 12 months is disallowed.
1. In‑Training Plan
: 720‑hour, 4–5 month Basic Law Enforcement Academy at designated sites. Candidates receive Park Ranger 1 pay during the academy and tuition, meals, and lodging are covered.
2. Internal Mandatory Law Enforcement Training
:
Includes defensive tactics, firearms qualification, radio, legal updates, and role‑specific duties such as chain‑of‑command and incident reporting.
3. Field Training Program (FTP): 14–20 weeks riding with Field Training Officers until independent in‑law enforcement duties are achieved.
4. Ranger Training Program (RTP):
Standardized training covering supervision, interpretive tasks, maintenance, stewardship, and customer service.

- Credentials for military service (DD‑214 or equivalent) if applicable.
- Unofficial transcripts or college evaluation if applicable.
