About Team School Programs:

Team School Programs is one of 17 local audit teams but also offers a unique opportunity for team members to participate in a variety of functions and duties. The team assesses school district compliance with legal criteria that must be met as a condition for receiving General Fund monies. There are 295 school districts, 16 charter schools and eight State-Tribal Compact schools subject to this audit effort.

The School Programs audit team partners with the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to publish and distribute The Accounting Manual for Public School Districts of the State of Washington. The team also assists the Special Education Safety Net Committee, works with staff of the OSPI on audit resolution, and provides training for SAO and school district staff through partnerships with external associations.

Team School Programs is additionally responsible for nearly 600 assessment audits of small local governments throughout the state. These assessment audits include school districts with less than 250 full-time students and other local governments with $300,000 or less in annual revenues. Assessment audits are limited-scope audits using information from the local government's annual report and other documents provided by the local government.

This position will be dedicated to conducting assessment audits of small local governments.

Assistant State Auditor 1

This is the first level of our in-training program for staff with little audit experience. The Office provides classes, on-the-job training time, and work product review and feedback to assist new auditors in gaining skills to move to the next level. Most work is completed in the field at the governmental entity, with employees working in teams.

Assistant State Auditor 2

In this second level of our in-training program, auditors continue to build upon the experience they gained through work as an Assistant State Auditor 1, our Internship program, or comparable work at another organization. At this level, employees may to be assigned opportunities to plan and conduct audits under the guidance of their supervisor.

Assistant State Auditor 3

This is the journey level of our Assistant State Auditor series. Staff at this level are responsible for planning and conducting risk-based financial & legal compliance, audits of Washington State agencies and local governments. They may also perform special investigations pertaining to citizen concerns and/or frauds. Journey level auditors review the work and provide mentoring to in-training level staff.

Education and years of experience combined with demonstrated competencies will determine ASA placement.

Positions are typically filled at the Assistant State Auditor 1 or Assistant State Auditor 2 level.

Assistant State Auditor 1 ($4,406 - $5,928)
