Position: MEDIC ONE TRAINING COORDINATOR

The salary for this position is: $6,376.00 - $8,386.00 monthly.

Thurston County is seeking a dynamic Medic One Training Coordinator to lead ongoing EMS training for paramedics and EMTs, coordinate high-quality in-service trainings for providers, collaborate with fire and EMS agencies, and drive innovative community outreach. This role offers the unique opportunity to foster and operationalize the future of EMS through collaboration, continuous improvement, and direct engagement—making a lasting impact for both responders and residents across our region.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Coordinate the Ongoing Education and Training Program (OTEP) throughout Thurston County.
  • Scheduling Emergency Medical Services (EMS) instructors and/or evaluators for ongoing training programs.
  • Ensure availability of adequate and appropriate EMS equipment for on-site classes.
  • Assist with initial training courses by functioning as Senior EMS Instructor, EMS Evaluator, EMS Instructor, Patient Coordinator, and/or Moulage Specialist.
  • Maintain appropriate records and process paperwork as required to ensure provider initial certification.
  • Coordinate annual EMS Evaluator Workshops and Basic Life Support (BLS) traditional recertification classes.
  • Coordinate the initial application and reciprocity processes for EMS providers seeking affiliation with Thurston County agencies.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews and training debriefs to verify standard application of training materials and compliance, and to identify areas for improvement. Research new educational methodology to ensure program is meeting current state and national standards in EMS education. Develop recommendations for procedural or policy changes.
  • Represent Program Manager in training and clinical issues as assigned.
  • Provide general administrative support and attend committee meetings as assigned.
  • Work Environment –Primarily office environment, classrooms, fire stations, and other areas as required. This will require occasional work in a clinical setting (both in-hospital and in the field). This position is required to maintain their EMS certification.
  • Schedule
    -Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Workload demands may require work outside the assigned work hours. EMT training, CPR training, and paramedic training may require work after hours and/or on weekends.
  • Travel Requirements -
    • This position requires frequent travel between Thurston County Medic One and EMS/Fire agencies, to incident sites, to community events, and to training locations to ensure effective coordination and administration.
    • This position is required to independently transport equipment, supplies, and documents necessary for operational continuity and high-quality service delivery.
    • This position may be called upon to respond rapidly during emergencies, requiring reliable, immediate access to a vehicle to support emergency response and field operations
  • Customer Interactions - Daily interactions via phone, in-person, and video with Thurston County staff and the public.
