Role and ContributionsThe Cloud Platform Enablement Architect is responsible for defining and evolving the agency’s cloud platform development architecture and Platform Baseline Standards (PBS). This role ensures that product and application teams can consistently deliver secure, reliable, and cost-effective solutions across state-authorized environments, including state data centers, hybrid/on-premises setups, and government-authorized cloud offerings such as Azure Government or AWS Gov Cloud (US).
Note:
This position focuses on defining patterns, PBS, and enablement assets. Implementation or operation of tenant/account resources, servers, pipelines/agents, backups, or daily monitoring/on-call duties remain the responsibility of the existing Cloud Solutions Architect and Infrastructure/Operations teams.
- Produce reference architectures, application landing-zone patterns, and policy-backed guardrails encompassing policy-as-code, identity, observability, and security. Manage the platform as a product with a roadmap, templates, documentation, training, and adoption KPIs.
- Enable developer productivity through golden paths, including repository templates, pipeline automation, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules, with security and compliance as default features.
- Lead application modernization towards cloud-native designs, emphasizing API-first, PaaS-first, serverless/containers, and event-driven patterns. Use Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) for transparency and auditability.
- Define service-level guidance (SLOs) and establish observability/resiliency patterns to ensure measurable, dependable, and cost-conscious services across provider toolsets and hybrid environments.
- Coordinate with business priorities and delivery teams to facilitate developer enablement, adoption, and compliance through well-defined templates and integration points.
- Develop and maintain Platform Reference Architecture & Patterns, PBS, and integration with IaC modules, ensuring security and cost controls across environments.
- Maintain governance artifacts such as ADRs, sunset/deprecation plans, migration documentation, and anti-patterns.
- Define and maintain the agency’s reference architectures, application patterns, and PBS; own the application layer (identity, service integration, data protection, resiliency) and collaborate on provider landing-zone architecture and IaC integration.
- Provide context-rich documentation, including platform playbooks with narrative guidance and diagrams.
- Incorporate platform compatibility matrices, including approved services and SKUs, version and runtime baselines, and a waiver workflow documented through ADRs.
- Offer self-service scaffolding, including template catalogs or CLI wizards, provisioning PBS landing zones, pipeline frameworks, and sample applications.
- Develop repository templates and CI/CD gates with security scans, policy checks, IaC plans, approvals, semantic versioning, and release notes.
