DescriptionThe Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Information Technology Division for a Network Engineer. We are seeking an excellent communicator with strong customer service skills to join us in supporting our vibrant and diverse agency. This position serves as an agency technical resource for enterprise network management and plays a key role in guiding the direction and development of DNR's local and wide area networks.
You will consult with internal customers, assess new technologies, and help shape the agency's networking strategic direction.
Note: This position offers partial telework flexibility; however, the duty station is in Olympia, Washington, and travel to the office for key meetings is required.
- Support, configure, maintain, and upgrade local and wide area network environments.
- Coordinate and negotiate WAN circuit upgrades, downgrades, and migrations.
- Configure and operate protocol independent multicast (PIM) and Internet group management protocol (IGMP) for Radio over IP (RoIP) services.
- Configure and operate multiple dynamic routing protocols.
- Document, implement, and maintain network infrastructure.
- Assist in the implementation of security solutions.
- Serve as a technical resource for the agency NGFW solution.
- Monitor, analyze, and evaluate anomalous network activity and implement remediation.
- Process firewall policy changes based on business requirements.
- Maintain detailed documentation of the NGFW environment.
- Serve as a technical resource for the agency WLAN environment.
- Purchase, license, configure, and deploy wireless access points.
- Assist in the upgrade and future replacement of the WLAN environment.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or closely related field AND 4 years of relevant professional IT Network & Telecommunications experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience working with a medium or large-sized organization in network, communications, and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience creating detailed technical documentation and procedures.
- Clear verbal and written communication of technical concepts.
- Sound judgment in escalation and solution recommendation.
- Effective collaboration with team members and vendors.

- Adherence to laws, regulations, and public records requirements.
