Job Summary

The Database Administrator is responsible for administering and maintaining the organization’s on‑premises and Azure‑based database platforms. The role ensures high availability, security, and optimal performance by following established standards, procedures, and automation practices. Key tasks include building and executing SQL and cloud‑native scripts, collaborating with senior staff on performance and scalability improvements, and leading initiatives for physical data modeling and architecture design across hybrid infrastructures.

Duties
  • Install, patch, upgrade and maintain database server system health.
  • Build database schemas and structures based on customer needs and established standards.
  • Suggest performance tuning for database systems/servers and structures.
  • Identify database requirements by interviewing customers; analyze applications, programming, and operations; evaluate existing systems and design proposed systems.
  • Evaluate and run SQL and other database scripts.
  • Manage Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines.
  • Perform daily tasks such as log analysis.
  • Implement and maintain transactional replication.
  • Troubleshoot database integrity and performance issues.
  • Schedule and automate SQL jobs.
  • Develop backup and restore strategy and perform scheduled restores.
  • Optimize indexing and parameters.
  • Create and maintain utility and tool development for database support.
  • Collaborate with development and user teams on database setup and related activities.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation support.
  • Assess and set up monitoring tools.
  • Evaluate security auditing, maintain server and database permissions.
  • Document business continuity plans, processes, and procedures.
  • Resolve replication, log shipping, connectivity, security issues, and other database integrity problems.
  • Develop and maintain SQL jobs tailored to maintenance tasks and user community requirements.
  • Conduct disaster recovery plan reviews and tests.
  • Support Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Model data with Microsoft Data Warehouse technologies and create BI reports.
  • Implement DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and Group Policy changes related to the database.
  • Migrate databases from on‑premise to Azure SQL; handle partitioning, compression, and encryption.
  • Configure SQL monitoring systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and develop SOP documents.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through workshops, publications, and professional societies.
  • Contribute to team effort and collaborate with development and user communities.
Required Qualifications
  • Seven years of enterprise SQL database administration experience with large‑scale, mission‑critical applications (Microsoft SQL Server 2016+, MySQL, etc.).
  • Experience with SSMS, Microsoft tools, Azure VM deployment, lifecycle patching, Azure SQL database.
  • Data modeling, ER/physical design tools.
  • Database server performance and optimization tools.
  • Understanding of OLTP and OLAP concepts.
  • Experience with ADF triggers, activities, data integration, and performance monitoring.
  • Role‑based access control, Active Directory, Azure AD, encryption standards.
  • Database replication implementation.
  • Performance tools:
    Extended Events, SQL Profiler, Azure Diagnostics, blocking/deadlock analysis.
  • Job scheduling with SQL Agent, ADF, Logic Apps.
  • Database backup, restore, archiving, Azure Backup, Recovery Vault, LRS, ZRS restore validation.
  • Database performance metrics, query optimization tools, cloud‑based tuning.
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Experience on‑call rotation support 24/7.
  • Familiarity with SQL Monitor or similar products, Azure cloud, third‑party tools.
  • Database auditing, roles, permissions.
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to formulate actionable plans for complex cross‑domain issues.
  • Self‑motivated and driven to improve processes and increase velocity.
  • Experience with Data Warehouse teams and BI tools.
