Special Note

This is a full-time, overtime exempt position on the Olympia campus of The Evergreen State College. This position is an “at-will” appointment, exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules and the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime requirements.

Position Purpose

This position reports to the Vice President for Finance and Administration and is responsible for the overall direction, vision, leadership, and management of the Facilities Services department which includes the maintenance of the physical plant and grounds, including all buildings, repairs, minor remodeling, energy generation and management systems, and custodial services; the planning of all facilities, including engineering, architectural design, drafting and estimating services, as well as construction coordination;

the administration of the Facilities Services department, including personnel, budget, accounting, environmental health and safety, key services, contract administration, space scheduling and management, and the development of capital and operating budget requests and the management of budget allocation expenditures.

Nature and Scope

This position is responsible for the Facilities Services department which includes Facilities/Grounds Maintenance, Student Housing Facilities Services, Building Services, Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Administrative and Budget Support, Project Management, Key Issues and Access Control, and Scheduling/Space Management.

• Provide overall direction and management of the Facilities Services department in a manner that is consistent with the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the college.
• Prepare long‑range strategic facilities plans that are consistent with the college Master Plan and Long‑Range Strategic Plan.
• Prepare operating and capital budget requests for the College’s Board of Trustees and State Legislature; administer and control budgets allocated to facilities in a manner that assures compliance with college and legislative intent, public works laws, and purchasing and contracting statutes.
• Serve as the appointing authority for all Facilities Services personnel matters related to hiring, management, and discipline.
• Assess, develop, recommend, and implement policies and procedures related to facilities.
• Partner with the Center for Climate Action and Sustainability, Residential and Dining Services, and external groups to achieve continued progress towards a greener campus and ensure the college’s sustainability goals are met, including the investigation of alternative energy sources, waste stream management, and building to LEED standards.
