Volunteer Position at WET Science Center
LOTT Clean Water Alliance's Water Education and Technology (WET) Science Center provides the community with a free, hands-on opportunity to learn all about water – one of our most precious resources. The WET Science Center is recruiting friendly people to serve as volunteers to interact with the public in this fun and educational setting. Join our team and help teach visitors how to conserve and protect water.
The work schedule is 2-4 hour shifts available Saturdays between 10 am and 4 pm.
Volunteers will report to the Environmental Education staff and interact with visitors of all ages in the WET Science Center and activity room, especially children. They assist with a variety of family-friendly crafts and hands-on science activities. Volunteers may also assist with school programs about wastewater and green design, staff special events in the community, assemble giveaways, tidy and clean the science center and activity room, and other support duties as needed.
Typically, the greatest need for assistance is staffing the activity room on Saturdays.
Volunteers must be 16 or older. They must be able to interact with the public to communicate messages in a friendly, clear, and professional manner. Volunteers should be able to welcome and relate to diverse audiences with enthusiasm and respect. They should understand and follow instructions, seeking clarification when necessary. Volunteers must demonstrate punctual and reliable attendance. Experience working with children is a plus.
Knowledge of water and/or environmental issues is a plus.
Successful completion of a background check is required prior to serving as a volunteer. Volunteers must attend an orientation that includes tips for interacting with the public, safety and behavior guidelines, and a wastewater plant tour. Volunteers are covered during their service by Labor and Industries.
