Reporting to the Animal Welfare & Field Services Manager, the Field Services Officer II is responsible for performing specialized work for Animal Services representing the jurisdictions to resolve various issues related to animals, and when necessary, provides the enforcement of local and State ordinances and statutes related to the control of animals. This is a front facing position, which requires exceptional customer service skills and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the community.

These duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Receives and responds to citizen requests for animal control service(s), including but not limited to; aiding residents in the compliance of animal control regulations; capturing and confining of stray animals, attempting to locate the owners prior to impoundment; rescuing injured and diseased animals; impounding dangerous animals and those posing a public safety concern when necessary.
- Responsible for engaging and educating the public on local ordinances and laws. Provides enforcement of laws through citations and legal action when an animal owner fails to comply.
- Responds to reports of bites from animals to humans and reports of animal cruelty, collecting case information and completing an investigation. Issues public health orders for rabies quarantine requirement when necessary. Pursues criminal charges when applicable. May testify in court against owners who disregard or violate ordinances.
- Responds to calls regarding deceased animals within city limits and may pick up and properly dispose of deceased animals.
- Responds to emergency calls to assist law enforcement with animal related issues, to assist with injured animals and/or intervene with actively aggressive animals menacing the public. May also respond to emergency calls from volunteer foster parents.
- Completes intake exam for all animals impounded by the FSO and Field team. Assists the Animal Care team in preparing animals for adoption by administering booster vaccines, medications and microchips.
- Administers pet first aid, ensures comfort and security at the shelter, feeding, and watering of animals as necessary. Participates in the Pet Shop-monitoring program as assigned.
- Provides technical expertise on current local ordinances, RCWs regarding animals, and agency policy to staff, volunteers, and the public.
- Transports shelter animals to veterinary offices for exams and surgeries as needed.
- Completes errands such as mail drop off, animal care supply pick-up, and transporting animals to rescues.
- Maintains records of various impounds, road activities, investigations, etc. Keeps an accurate record of daily activity, to include all stops and public contacts, via the truck log. Utilizes the Shelter programs and computer system to search owner records for licenses, enter animal data, and enter update, and search complaint records.
- Euthanizes or assists in euthanizing animals according to established procedures, including documentation required by Drug Enforcement Agency and all record entries.
- Sells licenses in the field; is knowledgeable of agency financial processes and receipting requirements; provides appropriate information to persons requesting service subject to fees; and receives and receipts money.
- Provides community outreach and engagement to provide information on proper pet care and control. Educates the public on the importance of spay/neuter, animal welfare, State and local laws regarding animals.
