Full Time. Salary Range: $18.33 - $22.00 Hourly.

Position Purpose

This position assists in the daily operation of Saint Michael Parish and School by maintaining the safety, function, and appearance of all parish buildings and grounds. The Facilities & Grounds Technician is responsible for all building and grounds maintenance at every location owned and operated by Saint Michael Parish and School, including but not limited to the duties outlined below.

Core Responsibilities
  • General Upkeep & Safety:
    Perform ongoing upkeep, repair, and safety checks of facilities, equipment, and grounds; operate and program electronic controls for the parish and school.
  • Heating & Cooling Systems:
    Program and repair HVAC systems for all buildings owned and operated by the parish and school.
  • Irrigation Systems:
    Program and repair irrigation systems across all parish-owned campuses.
  • Plumbing:
    Program and repair sinks, toilets, and baptismal fonts.
  • Electrical:
    Accurately program lighting control units for energy conservation; repair lighting programs and fixtures, up to and including replacement.
  • Westside Chapel:
    Operate and repair the independent commercial water system; coordinate with the independent water tester, providing access and information as needed.
  • Appliances:
    Operate and repair appliances across three commercial kitchens.
  • Fire & Security Systems:
    Work with the Facilities Director to maintain fire and security systems in compliance with applicable codes.
  • Key & Lock Security:
    Maintain key records and distribute keys to approved personnel; maintain and repair doors and locking hardware.
  • Equipment Operation:
    Operate motorized equipment, including mowers, weed eaters, trimmers, hedge clippers, backpack blowers, tractors, backhoes, trailers, trucks, high-lifts, and lowering devices.
  • Tool Use:
    Use non-motorized tools (rakes, shovels, brooms, screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, saws, wrenches, ladders, scaffolding) and motorized tools (saws, drills, sanders, and related equipment).
Building Systems & Technical Knowledge
  • Researches and orders appropriate parts and supplies through local vendors and online sources.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, concrete, electrical, sheet metal, landscaping, painting, and welding.
  • Understands motors, pumps, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, boilers, and related mechanical systems.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of structural and mechanical drawings.
  • Understands commercial water, sewer, irrigation, fire alarm, security alarm, and fire suppression systems.
  • Responds to non-shift, after-hours emergency failures of critical systems.
  • Operates personal and/or church-owned vehicles as needed for the role.
Working Conditions
  • Requires prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, lying down, heavy lifting, work in confined spaces, and work at extreme heights.
  • Requires both interior and exterior work in all weather conditions, in daylight and after dark, including non-shift, after-hours emergencies such as snow removal.
  • Requires availability and sometimes long hours during major Catholic holy days, such as Christmas and Holy Week.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Reports all unsafe, suspicious, or criminal behaviors and situations, which may require working directly with police.
  • Supports new construction, remodeling, and general repairs of all parish structures and furnishings.
  • Assists with setup, take-down, and transportation of supplies and materials for ministerial activities.
  • Assists various ministries of Saint Michael Parish and School with setup help and supplies as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Successful completion of an Archdiocese of Seattle Background Check.
  • Previous experience in maintenance work.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and related mechanical and building systems.

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
