Heavy Equipment Mechanic
The salary range for this position is $5,526.00 - $6,847.00 monthly.
Thurston County Central Services is recruiting for an
Equipment Mechanic to join our dynamic, energetic, and innovative Fleet Services team. The successful candidate will inspect, diagnose, and repair all types of equipment used in highway maintenance and other county owned vehicles.
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical equipment on passenger vehicles, construction, agriculture, and forestry equipment, heavy trucks, and all other County-owned equipment.
- Designing and repairing electrical systems.
- Entering job order data on county provided computer using FIMS software.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and service manuals.
- Utilizing a variety of diagnostic software applications and scan tools.
- Road testing vehicles and equipment after repair.
This position is considered to be an essential worker and may be required to work during non-business hours or closures in order to meet operational requirements and needs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:- Work Environment – Approximately 90% of duties are performed in a shop environment with physical effort exerted while lifting machine parts and tires ranging from 25 to 125 lbs. Physical injury can result from exposure to a variety of automotive and welding fumes and moving parts.
- Schedule – 4/10s, 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Workload demands may occasionally require work outside the assigned work hours.

- Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings or trainings and to perform road tests on vehicles. - Customer Interactions
- Daily interactions via phone, in-person, and video with Thurston County staff and vendors.
Central Services provides diverse internal services to county offices and departments, including facilities operations and maintenance, vehicle and equipment fleet management, records management, capital project management, surplus, and mail services. The department has 54 employees, supporting a county workforce of more than 1,000 employees.
