We are dedicated to growing a culture of belonging through our values:

Respect | Trust | Diversity | Inclusion | Equity

This posting is for two(2) unpaid non-permanent internship positions.

These internships are expected to start in August of 2026.

At the Department of Licensing (DOL), we recognize the importance of work life harmony and strive to create a culture where employees feel valued and respected. Employees are trusted and encouraged to be a part of process improvements that impact their work, create value for our customers and help build trust in our government.

Our Information Services Department is currently recruiting two (2) interns who are passionate about the work we do to learn from our team!

We are one of the most public facing state agencies and the second largest revenue generating agency in Washington State. We regularly interact with over 6 million Washington residents. We advance public safety and consumer protection through licensing, regulation, and education, and collect over $3 billion in revenue. Our Business & Professions Division (BPD) has 39 business and professional licensing programs and overall manages 42 programs, providing oversight of Combative Sports events, maintaining Uniform Commercial Code filings, administering the Centralized Investigations & Audits Unit (CIAU), Performing Rights Society registration, and maintaining the Firearms database for law enforcement.

If you are a collaborative team player familiar with fast paced reading and interpretation of policy, laws, and regulations, we invite you to apply!

As an Intern, you will be working part time to earn college or course completion to meet your university's requirements. You can help us create your schedule and training plan to ensure success throughout the internship. Additionally, your daily activities will be overseen and discussed to ensure your understanding of state work requirements is clear and accurate. Daily staff interaction and support will be a big piece of this position as it is with many of our current IT roles for DOL.

Some of what you will do:

* Participate in IT service desk functions for the agency.

* Provide software and hardware troubleshooting.

* Perform hardware and software installation.

* create, view, update, and follow standardized documentation.

* Learn consultation standards.

* Perform research.

What you will bring:

* Enrollment in an Information Technology or closely related program.

* The ability to understand and follow agency values of respect, trust, diversity, equity and inclusion through behaviors and decisions.

Additional Requirements of Employment

* Prior to a new hire, a pre-employment screening, including criminal record history, will be conducted. Information from the pre-employment check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.

* This position required a minimum of 8 hours a week in-office at our Thurston county locations. More hours per week are allowed, but please consider this minimum and your ability to work Monday-Friday during business hours prior to applying.

DOL is committed to the full inclusion of all qualified individuals. In keeping with our commitment, we will take the steps to ensure that people with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodations.

For information about available accommodations, the interview process, or the position contact Kyle Odell.

Come join us in changing the way government delivers services and help build a legacy of commitment to and excellence in diversity, equity, and inclusion!
