Advanced Technical Designer – WB Games / Avalanche
Avalanche is a Warner Bros. Games studio located in downtown Salt Lake City, nestled against the backdrop of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. We’ve been in the video game business since 1995, creating interactive experiences for fans of the world’s largest franchises – and we’re working on the blockbuster open‑world, action‑RPG Hogwarts Legacy.
The JobAvalanche, a division of WB Games Inc., is seeking an Advanced Technical Designer to join a team of talented industry veterans working on a new online multiplayer RPG. This person will be a key technical expert within the design team, working closely with design, engineering, and art leadership to prototype and implement high‑quality gameplay features for an online multiplayer RPG.
What part will you play?- Lead the creation of rapid prototypes for new gameplay systems and features, allowing for quick iteration and validation.
- Collaborate closely with the design team to build complex gameplay systems, supporting tools, and advise on best practices for technical implementation.
- Work closely with engineering and technical art teams to ensure the design vision is achieved, is technically sound, and meets performance budgets.
- Design, implement, and iterate on complex gameplay features using Unreal Engine Blueprints and other scripting tools.
- Mentor other designers on technical design best practices, optimization, and Unreal Engine workflows.
- Perform peer reviews for Blueprints and other technical design work, championing a high standard of code and implementation excellence.
- Help define and document technical standards for design‑created content.
- 8+ years of professional game design experience, with a heavy focus on technical design.
- Experience on at least one successfully‑published large‑scale multiplayer online game title or equivalent.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Computer Science, Game Design) or equivalent work experience.
- Expert‑level proficiency with the Unreal Engine, especially Blueprints.
- Exceptional understanding of all game development disciplines and their inputs into the content pipeline.
- Strong problem‑solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
- Clear, concise, and transparent communicator, with an ability to mentor and explain technical concepts to team members.
- A passion for online multiplayer RPGs.
- Deep experience with online games and live‑service games.
- Deep knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in online gaming.

CompensationPay Range: $ – $ salary per year. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short‑ and long‑term incentives, and program‑specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
