Position OverviewThe Senior Software Developer leads the development, configuration, integration, testing, and deployment of complex agency-wide information systems to meet the business requirements of the Washington State judicial branch. The role requires senior-level expertise across all software development functions.

- Telework: Must reside in Washington State; at least 2 days per week onsite at AOC facilities
- Collaborate with project managers, business analysts, and IT resources to develop IT applications/software using the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Serve as the technical leader on highly complex software or application development efforts.
- Develop and maintain functionality including change management, security, authentication, application distribution, data access, search routines, system-wide configurations, and reports.
- Define and analyze IT problems, conduct research, and recommend solutions based on business and technical requirements.
- Review and comment on functional and technical specifications written by AOC staff.
- Develop applications and software solutions using assigned languages, platforms, and frameworks.
- Conduct code reviews of other software developers' work products.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for research and reference.
- Perform initial unit and system testing, ensuring deliverables meet expectations.
- Coordinate with business owners/analysts, developers, and the test team to assist in ongoing testing.
- Perform in-depth tests, including end‑user reviews, for modified and new systems.
- Create deployment documentation for ISD staff and provide mentorship to system support staff.
- Maintain IT applications and associated components while coordinating with the application support team.
- Proactively monitor system performance to identify emerging issues.
- Evaluate new software development products and programming languages and recommend consistency with best practices.
- Liaise with technical, business, and stakeholder groups, communicating effectively between them.
- Respond to customer service requests and provide senior-level troubleshooting, problem resolution, and consulting.
- Collaborate to enhance or improve business processes via integration, minimizing disruption.
- Evaluate integration results and report recommendations.
- Communicate data problems and issues to technical and business stakeholders.
- Potentially perform lead duties for a workgroup, including resolving procedure or workflow conflicts.
- Perform other duties as required.
A combination of education and experience demonstrating a working knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of a Senior Software Developer may substitute for the qualifications listed.
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or closely allied field*
- Eight (8) years of experience in a complex information technology environment, including:
- Six (6) years of experience developing and enhancing applications using C#, .NET, MS Entity Framework, Java, Magic XPA, COBOL, Natural, and Cold Fusion. (Specific requirement for this recruitment: C#, .NET, MS Entity Framework, and Magic XPA)
- Highly proficient in major programming languages/frameworks such as C#, .NET, MS Entity Framework, Java, Magic XPA, ISPW, Software AG Designer, and Cold Fusion.
- Knowledge of software development methodologies, design, and implementation.
- Skill with version control systems, web services, and automated build/deploy agents.
- Understanding of Enterprise Architecture fundamentals.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 products (Teams, Outlook, Word, One Note, PowerPoint).
- Workweek may fluctuate based on workload or agency needs.
- Overnight travel may be required.
- This position is not overtime eligible.
